Turn off power to the circuit
Disconnect the component if needed
Set the multimeter to resistance mode
Select the appropriate ohms range if manual ranging
Insert the black probe into COM
Insert the red probe into the V/Ω port
Touch the probe tips together to check the meter reading
Place the probes across the component or resistor leads
Read the resistance value on the display
Compare the reading to the expected value
Remove the probes after measuring
