Wash the pan with hot water and a small amount of mild soap
Scrub off rust, old seasoning, and stuck-on residue with steel wool or a stiff brush
Rinse thoroughly and dry completely
Heat the pan on the stove or in the oven to remove all moisture
Apply a very thin layer of cooking oil to the entire surface, inside and out
Wipe off all excess oil until the pan looks nearly dry
Place the pan upside down in a preheated oven at 450–500°F
Put foil or a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch drips
Bake for 1 hour
Turn off the oven and let the pan cool inside
Repeat the oiling and baking process 2–4 times for a stronger seasoning
Store the pan in a dry place after use
Lightly oil after each cleaning to maintain the seasoning
