Rest quietly for 5 minutes before measuring
Avoid caffeine, exercise, smoking, and alcohol for 30 minutes before measuring
Empty your bladder before measuring
Sit upright with your back supported
Keep both feet flat on the floor
Do not cross your legs
Rest your arm on a flat surface at heart level
Use the correct cuff size for the arm
Place the cuff on bare skin, not over clothing
Position the cuff snugly, with the lower edge about 1 inch above the elbow crease
Keep your arm relaxed and still during the reading
Do not talk, move, or use your phone while measuring
Take at least two readings, 1 minute apart
Record the readings with date and time
Measure at the same time each day if tracking trends
Use the same arm consistently unless told otherwise by a clinician
Follow the device instructions exactly
Check the monitor regularly for accuracy
Bring your monitor to a clinic visit to compare readings
Seek medical advice if readings are repeatedly high or low
