Collect ripe rose hips after they turn red, orange, or deep purple
Remove the seeds from the hips
Rinse the seeds clean
Soak the seeds in water for 24 hours
Place the seeds in a damp paper towel or moist sand
Seal the seeds in a plastic bag or container
Refrigerate the seeds for 6 to 12 weeks
Check periodically to keep the medium moist
Fill seed trays or pots with sterile seed-starting mix
Sow the seeds about 1/4 inch deep
Cover lightly with soil
Mist the soil to keep it evenly moist
Place the containers in a warm, bright location
Keep the soil moist but not soggy
Wait for germination
Transplant seedlings when they have several true leaves
Harden off seedlings before moving them outdoors
Plant in well-drained soil with full sun
Water regularly after transplanting
