Put the avocado in a paper bag with a banana or apple
Fold the bag closed and leave it at room temperature
Check it every 12 to 24 hours
Place it in a warm spot, not in direct sunlight
Wrap it in newspaper and keep it in a warm area
Use the oven only if you need it softened quickly for immediate use
Microwave it in short bursts if you need it very fast
Store it near other ripe fruit to speed ripening
Avoid refrigerating it until it is ripe
Cut it open only when it gives slightly to gentle pressure
