Open the Microsoft Word app on your phone
Open the document you want to edit
Tap the edit icon if needed
Tap where you want to insert the picture
Tap the plus icon or Insert option
Tap Pictures or Photos
Choose the image source
Select the picture you want to add
Tap Insert or Done
Resize or move the picture if needed
