How To Anchor A Boat?

Choose a suitable anchoring spot with enough depth and good holding ground

Check wind, current, tide, and swing room

Select the right anchor and sufficient anchor rode

Prepare the anchor, chain, and line before approaching the spot

Approach the anchoring spot slowly into the wind or current

Stop the boat where you want the anchor to set

Lower or gently drop the anchor to the bottom

Let out rode gradually as the boat drifts back

Pay out enough scope for secure holding

Snub the rode to help the anchor dig in

Reverse slowly to set the anchor

Confirm the boat is holding position

Secure the rode to a cleat or bow fitting

Use an anchor alarm or visual reference if needed

Recheck the anchor if wind, current, or tide changes

Retrieve the anchor by moving slowly toward it and lifting it vertically
