Complete the FAFSA at studentaid.gov
Create an FSA ID for the student and one for a parent if required
Gather Social Security numbers, tax returns, W-2s, and other income records
List the schools you want to receive your FAFSA information
Submit the FAFSA as early as possible
Review your Student Aid Report after submission
Check each school’s financial aid offer
Accept the federal loan amount you want through the school’s financial aid office or student portal
Complete entrance counseling if required
Sign the Master Promissory Note
Monitor your school account for loan disbursement dates
