Preheat oven to 350°F
Grease and flour a cake pan
Gather flour, sugar, eggs, butter, milk, baking powder, vanilla, and salt
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl
Mix butter and sugar until smooth
Add eggs and vanilla
Add dry ingredients and milk
Mix until batter is smooth
Pour batter into the cake pan
Bake for 25 to 35 minutes
Check with a toothpick
Remove from oven
Let cake cool
Add frosting
Slice and serve
