Be a baptized Catholic male in good standing with the Church
Be at least 35 years old if married, or at least 25 years old if unmarried, according to diocesan norms
If married, have the consent of your wife
If unmarried, commit to celibacy after ordination
Practice an active sacramental and prayer life
Participate regularly in Mass, Confession, and Eucharistic adoration
Serve consistently in parish or diocesan ministries
Contact your parish priest or diocesan diaconate office
Attend diocesan information sessions for diaconate formation
Complete the application process required by your diocese
Undergo interviews, background checks, and psychological screening
Receive recommendation from your pastor and diocesan authorities
Enter the aspirancy or inquiry period if accepted
Complete required academic, spiritual, pastoral, and human formation
Fulfill theological studies, often through a seminary or diocesan program
Participate in supervised pastoral assignments
Continue discernment throughout formation
Receive candidacy if formally approved
Be ordained by the bishop through the sacrament of Holy Orders
Remain faithful to ongoing diaconal ministry and continuing formation
