Keep axolotls in a healthy, mature setup
Make sure both axolotls are adults and in good condition
Use a cool, stable water temperature
Feed them a nutritious diet before breeding
Place a male and female together in a suitable tank
Watch for the male to deposit spermatophores
Watch for the female to pick up the spermatophores
Provide plenty of hiding places and low stress conditions
Separate the adults after breeding if needed
Move eggs to a safe rearing tank
Keep water clean and well filtered with gentle flow
Remove unfertilized or fungus-covered eggs
Wait for the eggs to hatch
Feed hatchlings appropriate live food
Sort juveniles by size as they grow
Keep juveniles separated if needed to prevent cannibalism
