Check soil moisture and water deeply if the soil is dry
Water at the base of the plant, not on the leaves
Remove dead, damaged, or wilted flowers and leaves
Trim back dead stems to healthy green tissue
Move the plant to partial shade if it is getting too much sun
Protect the plant from hot afternoon sun and strong wind
Add mulch around the base to help retain moisture
Make sure the soil drains well and is not waterlogged
Feed with a balanced fertilizer if the plant is nutrient deficient
Repot container hydrangeas into fresh, moist potting mix if rootbound
Soak the root ball thoroughly if the plant has dried out severely
Check for pests and treat them promptly
Avoid overwatering after the plant starts recovering
Keep the soil evenly moist until new growth appears
