Level and compact the ground
Lay landscape fabric if desired
Add a gravel base for drainage
Set concrete deck blocks, footings, or piers at the planned support points
Ensure all supports are level and aligned
Install pressure-treated posts or sleepers if required
Build the outer frame with pressure-treated lumber
Square the frame and fasten it securely
Add interior joists at the required spacing
Install joist hangers and connectors as needed
Check that all framing is level and stable
Install decking boards perpendicular to the joists
Leave proper spacing between boards for drainage and expansion
Fasten decking with exterior-rated screws or hidden fasteners
Trim board ends flush
Install fascia boards if desired
Add stairs, skirting, or railings if required
Seal or stain the deck if using a finish
Inspect all fasteners, joints, and support points before use
