How To Burn A Stump?

Check local laws, permits, and fire restrictions before starting

Clear the area around the stump of leaves, mulch, wood, and other flammables

Dig out soil around the stump to expose roots and improve airflow

Drill several deep holes into the stump from the top and sides

Fill the holes with a stump-burning product or kerosene as directed by the product label

Let the stump soak for the recommended time

Place kindling or dry wood on and around the stump

Ignite the fire carefully and keep a hose, water, or extinguisher nearby

Monitor the stump continuously until it is fully burned down

Stir and re-light only if allowed and safe, keeping the fire contained

Douse all embers thoroughly with water when finished

Check for heat and smoldering spots for several hours afterward

Backfill the hole with soil once everything is completely cool
