Hold the baby upright against your chest or shoulder
Support the baby’s head and neck
Gently pat or rub the baby’s back
Keep the baby upright for a few minutes
Try burping during and after feeding
If using a bottle, pause every 1 to 2 ounces to burp
If breastfeeding, burp when switching breasts
Try different positions if needed
Sit the baby on your lap and support the chest and head while patting the back
Lay the baby face down across your lap and gently rub or pat the back
Stop if the baby seems uncomfortable
Ask a pediatrician if the baby has trouble burping or seems very fussy after feeds
