Hang the deer by the hind legs
Skin the body down to the shoulders
Make a circular cut around each front leg above the knee
Cut around the base of the neck
Cut from the neck down the center of the chest
Skin carefully around the shoulders and front legs
Leave the hide attached at the neck and shoulders for the cape
Cut the head free at the base of the skull if needed
Remove the cape by pulling the hide forward over the head
Keep the cape clean and cool
Flesh the cape by removing fat and membrane
Salt the cape heavily if preserving it
Fold the cape hair-to-hair
Store it in a cool, dry place or freeze it
Deliver it to a taxidermist as soon as possible
