Turn off the light switch
Turn off power at the circuit breaker
Let the bulb cool completely
Place a stable ladder or step stool under the fixture
Remove the trim if needed
Grip the bulb firmly
Twist the bulb counterclockwise to remove it
If it is a pin-based bulb, pull it straight out gently
Insert the new bulb with the same base type and wattage
Twist clockwise until secure, if applicable
Reattach the trim if removed
Turn the power back on
Test the light
