Peel the garlic clove
Trim off the root end
Crush the clove lightly with the flat side of a knife
Remove the skin
Slice the garlic lengthwise into thin pieces
Turn the slices and cut them into small strips
Chop the strips crosswise into fine pieces
Gather the garlic and chop again if needed for a finer texture
Keep the knife tip on the cutting board and use a rocking motion
Use a pinch of salt on the garlic if needed to help it stay in place
