Wear gloves and eye protection
Turn off the vehicle and remove the key
Disconnect the negative battery terminal first
Disconnect the positive battery terminal second
Mix baking soda with water
Apply the mixture to the corroded terminals
Scrub the corrosion with a wire brush or old toothbrush
Wipe away residue with a clean damp cloth
Dry the terminals completely
Clean the cable clamps the same way
Apply petroleum jelly or battery terminal protectant
Reconnect the positive terminal first
Reconnect the negative terminal second
Tighten the connections securely
Check that the terminals are clean and stable
