Wear gloves and a mask before handling moldy clothes
Take the clothes outside to avoid spreading spores indoors
Shake off loose mold gently outdoors
Brush off visible fungus with a soft brush
Wash the clothes in the hottest water safe for the fabric
Add regular detergent
Add white vinegar or oxygen bleach if the fabric allows
Do not mix bleach with vinegar or other cleaners
Run an extra rinse cycle
Dry the clothes completely in direct sunlight if possible
Use a dryer on high heat if the fabric permits
Repeat washing if any mold smell or spots remain
Discard items that are severely mold-damaged or cannot be cleaned safely
Clean the washing machine afterward to remove spores
