How to Clean Handgun?

Verify the handgun is unloaded

Remove the magazine

Open the action and inspect the chamber

Remove all ammunition from the cleaning area

Field strip the handgun according to the manufacturer’s manual

Wear eye protection

Use a cleaning mat or protected surface

Run a solvent-soaked patch through the barrel

Brush the barrel with the correct caliber bore brush

Run clean patches through the barrel until they come out clean

Clean the chamber with a chamber brush if applicable

Clean the slide, frame, and other accessible parts with a nylon brush or cloth

Remove carbon buildup from the breech face, feed ramp, and extractor area

Wipe away residue with clean patches or cloths

Apply a small amount of lubricant to recommended contact points

Do not over-lubricate

Reassemble the handgun

Function check the handgun according to the manufacturer’s manual

Wipe the exterior clean

Store the handgun unloaded and secured

Dispose of used patches and solvents properly
