Put on disposable gloves
Remove any solid waste with paper towels or a plastic bag
Scrape up residue with a dull knife or spoon
Blot the area with paper towels; do not rub
Mix warm water with a small amount of dish soap
Blot the stain with the soapy solution
Blot with clean water to rinse
Apply an enzyme cleaner made for pet stains
Let the cleaner sit for the time listed on the label
Blot again with clean paper towels
Sprinkle baking soda over the area
Let the baking soda sit until dry
Vacuum up the baking soda
Repeat if needed
Disinfect the area if appropriate for the carpet material
Wash hands thoroughly after cleaning
