Clean panels early morning or late afternoon when cool
Turn off solar system (if your system has a disconnect)
Use deionized water or distilled water when possible
Use a soft brush, long-handle brush, or microfiber cloth designed for solar panels
Rinse panels thoroughly with water before wiping
Gently scrub using light pressure in straight lines or with the panel’s surface grain
Focus on high-soil areas (bird droppings, pollen, dust buildup)
For stubborn spots, apply a manufacturer-recommended solar panel cleaner diluted as directed
Avoid abrasive pads, steel wool, or harsh chemicals
Do not use vinegar, bleach, ammonia, or abrasive cleaners unless the manufacturer explicitly allows them
Avoid spraying cleaner onto hot panels
Rinse again after cleaning to remove any residue
Dry with a soft squeegee or let air-dry if streaking is minimal
Inspect for cracks, loose wiring, or damaged mounts after cleaning
Clean only the glass surface; do not spray water into junction boxes or electrical connections
Keep tools and water away from electrical components
Follow the panel manufacturer’s maintenance guidelines
Schedule cleaning when needed based on local rainfall, dust, and seasonal buildup
