Pat country ribs dry
Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika
Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat
Sear ribs on all sides until browned
Place ribs in a baking dish or Dutch oven
Add sliced onions if desired
Pour in barbecue sauce, broth, or both
Cover tightly with foil or a lid
Bake for 2 to 2.5 hours until tender
Uncover for the last 15 to 20 minutes if you want a thicker glaze
Check that the ribs are fork-tender
Let rest for 5 to 10 minutes
Serve hot
