Rinse 1 cup of rice until the water runs clear
Grease the crock pot lightly with butter or oil
Add the rinsed rice to the crock pot
Add 2 cups of water or broth
Add a pinch of salt if desired
Cover with the lid
Cook on low for 2 to 3 hours or on high for 1 to 1.5 hours
Check for doneness near the end of cooking
Fluff the rice with a fork
Serve immediately
