Rinse the sticky rice 3 to 5 times until the water runs mostly clear
Soak the rice in water for 4 to 8 hours or overnight
Drain the rice well
Place the rice in a steamer lined with cheesecloth, parchment, or a clean cloth
Steam over boiling water for 20 to 30 minutes
Flip or stir the rice halfway through steaming for even cooking
Check for tenderness; steam a few minutes longer if needed
Remove from the steamer and let rest for 5 minutes
Serve warm
