Gather materials:
1–7 paper
1 gunpowder
Optional: 1 diamond, gold nugget, glowstone dust, or fire charge (depending on desired effect)
Open a crafting table (3×3 grid).
Place gunpowder in the bottom row center:
Put 1 gunpowder in the middle of the bottom row.
Add paper to set the flight duration:
Place paper in the remaining slots of the bottom row and/or middle row (up to 7 total).
Optional firework effects:
To add color: include the desired dye ingredient (e.g., red/green/blue/yellow/purple/cyan/white) in the crafting grid alongside the base recipe.
To add additional effects: include extra effect ingredients (e.g., glowstone for fade/brightness behavior) as available.
Craft the firework rocket.
Use the firework:
Place it in your hotbar and equip it.
Right-click/use it while holding it (or use on a dispenser with a redstone signal).
