Soak the foot in warm water for 15 to 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day
Add Epsom salt to the soak if desired
Dry the foot thoroughly after soaking
Gently lift the nail edge with clean cotton or dental floss
Replace the cotton or floss daily
Wear open-toe or roomy shoes
Avoid tight socks and tight footwear
Keep the toe clean and dry
Trim toenails straight across
Avoid cutting toenails too short
Avoid digging into the nail corners
Apply a natural antiseptic such as diluted tea tree oil
Apply aloe vera to soothe irritation
Rest the foot and avoid pressure on the toe
Use a clean bandage if the toe is rubbing
Monitor for redness, swelling, pus, or worsening pain
Seek medical care if signs of infection appear
