Use an over-the-counter antifungal cream, gel, or spray with terbinafine, clotrimazole, miconazole, or ketoconazole
Apply the antifungal to the affected area and 1 to 2 inches beyond it
Use the treatment exactly as directed on the package
Continue treatment for 1 to 2 weeks after the rash looks gone
Keep the area clean and dry
Wash hands after touching the rash
Do not share towels, clothing, combs, or bedding
Wash clothing, towels, and bedding regularly in hot water if possible
Change socks and underwear daily
Wear loose, breathable clothing
Avoid scratching the rash
Treat infected pets if they are the source
See a doctor if the rash is on the scalp, nails, face, or groin
See a doctor if it is widespread, severe, or not improving after 2 weeks
See a doctor if you have a weakened immune system
Use prescription oral antifungal medicine if prescribed by a doctor
