Set up the tank with filter, heater, substrate, and dechlorinated water
Run the filter and heater continuously
Add an ammonia source
Test water daily for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate
Keep ammonia present until nitrite appears
Keep testing until ammonia and nitrite both reach zero within 24 hours of dosing
Wait for nitrate to rise during the process
Do partial water changes if ammonia or nitrite get too high
Add beneficial bacteria starter if desired
Do not add fish until the cycle is complete
Add fish slowly after cycling is finished
Continue regular water testing after adding fish
