Place used needles immediately into an FDA-cleared sharps container or a heavy-duty puncture-resistant container with a tight-fitting lid
Do not recap, bend, break, or remove needles by hand
Keep the container out of reach of children and pets
Close and seal the container when it is about three-quarters full
Follow local rules for sharps disposal
Use designated drop-off sites, collection programs, or mail-back services if available
Never throw loose needles into household trash or recycling
Never flush needles down the toilet
If no sharps container is available, use a sturdy plastic container with a screw-on lid and label it clearly as “Sharps”
Wear gloves if handling a container with used needles
Wash hands after handling used needles or sharps containers
