Put the superscript footnote number in the text after the punctuation mark.
At the bottom of the page, write the corresponding footnote number followed by a period.
Start the footnote with the author’s first and last name.
Write the title of the source in italics for books and journals, or in quotation marks for articles and chapters.
Include publication details such as city, publisher, and year for books.
Include page numbers for the specific information cited.
Use commas to separate the main parts of the citation.
End the footnote with a period.
Use shortened footnotes after the first full citation when citing the same source again.
Use “Ibid.” only when citing the same source and page immediately after the previous note, if allowed by your Chicago style version.
Keep footnotes single-spaced with a blank line between notes if required by your formatting guide.
