How To Do Synthetic Division?

Write the divisor in the form (x-a) (for linear divisor)

Set up the coefficients of the dividend in descending powers of (x)

Place the value (a) to the left of the synthetic division bracket

Bring down the first coefficient unchanged

Multiply the brought-down number by (a)

Write the product under the next coefficient

Add the next coefficient and the product; write the result in the next position

Repeat: multiply the new number by (a), write the product, add, and continue

The final number at the end is the remainder

The numbers across the top (excluding the remainder) are the coefficients of the quotient

If the remainder is (0), the division is exact
