How To Drive A Forklift?

Get trained and authorized before operating a forklift

Inspect the forklift before use

Check brakes, steering, horn, lights, tires, forks, mast, and fluid levels

Verify the load capacity plate and know the forklift’s limits

Wear required safety gear

Adjust the seat and fasten the seat belt

Start the forklift only in the operator seat

Use the controls smoothly and keep hands and feet inside

Drive with the forks low to the ground

Keep the load stable and within capacity

Tilt the mast back slightly when carrying a load

Travel slowly and watch your path

Sound the horn at intersections and blind spots

Keep a safe distance from people, equipment, and edges

Turn slowly and avoid sudden movements

Drive in reverse if the load blocks your view

Do not carry passengers unless the forklift is designed for it

Do not raise or lower the load while moving unless necessary and safe

Stop and lower the load fully before leaving the forklift

Park on level ground, set the brake, and turn off the power

Report any damage, defects, or unsafe conditions immediately
