Identify the two producers, countries, or individuals being compared

List the output each can produce using the same resources or time

Determine the opportunity cost of producing each good for each producer

Compare opportunity costs for the same good across producers

Identify which producer has the lower opportunity cost for that good

Assign comparative advantage in that good to the producer with the lower opportunity cost

Repeat the comparison for the other good

Use the results to determine specialization and trade patterns
