How to Find Inflation Rate?

Choose the starting period and ending period

Find the price index or CPI for both periods

Subtract the starting index from the ending index

Divide the result by the starting index

Multiply by 100

Use the formula: Inflation Rate = [(Ending CPI – Starting CPI) / Starting CPI] × 100

If using prices of a basket of goods, calculate the percentage change in total cost the same way

Express the result as a percentage
