Convert the percentage to a decimal by dividing by 100
Multiply the decimal by the total number
Use the formula: part = percentage × total
Example: 20% of 50 = 0.20 × 50 = 10
To find the total when you know the part and percentage, use: total = part ÷ percentage
Example: 10 is 20% of what number? 10 ÷ 0.20 = 50
To find the percentage of a number, use: percentage = (part ÷ total) × 100
Example: 10 out of 50 = (10 ÷ 50) × 100 = 20%
