To find a percentage of a number, multiply the number by the percentage as a decimal
Convert the percentage to a decimal by dividing by 100
Example: 20% of 50 = 50 × 0.20 = 10
On a calculator, enter the number, then multiply, then enter the decimal form of the percentage
To find what percent one number is of another, divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100
Example: 10 ÷ 50 × 100 = 20%
To add a percentage to a number, calculate the percentage amount first, then add it to the original number
To subtract a percentage from a number, calculate the percentage amount first, then subtract it from the original number
If your calculator has a % button, enter the numbers and press % according to the calculator’s function
Check the calculator manual if the % button behaves differently on your model
