Measure the distance traveled by the solvent front from the starting point
Divide the substance distance by the solvent front distance
Use the formula: Rf = distance traveled by substance / distance traveled by solvent front
Ensure both distances are measured from the same origin line
Keep units the same for both measurements
Record the Rf value as a decimal between 0 and 1
