Apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth if there is bleeding
Sit upright and lean slightly forward
Apply a cold pack wrapped in cloth to the nose and cheeks for 15 to 20 minutes at a time
Avoid blowing your nose
Avoid touching, pushing, or trying to straighten the nose
Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed and if safe for you
Seek urgent medical care if the nose looks crooked, breathing is difficult, bleeding will not stop, or there is severe pain or swelling
Get medical evaluation as soon as possible to check for fracture or septal injury
Follow the healthcare provider’s instructions for splinting, reduction, or surgery if needed
