How to Fix a Door Handle?

Tighten the visible screws on the handle or lever

Remove the handle cover or faceplate if screws are hidden

Tighten the mounting screws inside the handle assembly

Check and tighten the latch plate screws on the door edge

Replace stripped screws with slightly longer screws

Remove the handle and inspect the spindle for damage

Reinsert the spindle fully into both handle sides

Replace a broken spindle if it is bent or worn

Check the latch mechanism for sticking or misalignment

Clean dirt or debris from the latch and handle parts

Lubricate the latch with a small amount of graphite or silicone spray

Replace a broken latch assembly

Realign the strike plate on the door frame

Tighten or reposition the strike plate screws

Fill stripped screw holes with wood filler, dowels, or toothpicks and glue

Reinstall the screws after the filler sets

Replace cracked or broken handle parts

Test the handle after each adjustment

Replace the entire door handle set if repairs do not hold
