Soak feet in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes
Gently scrub thick skin with a pumice stone or foot file
Apply a thick moisturizer or heel balm twice daily
Use petroleum jelly and wear cotton socks overnight
Keep feet clean and dry
Avoid walking barefoot on hard surfaces
Wear closed-back, cushioned shoes
Avoid open-backed sandals and flip-flops
Drink enough water
Exfoliate regularly, but do not overdo it
Use a urea, salicylic acid, or lactic acid foot cream
Treat dry skin and calluses early
Check for and manage athlete’s foot or eczema
See a doctor if cracks are deep, painful, bleeding, or infected
