Widen the crack slightly with a utility knife
Remove loose drywall and dust
Apply drywall tape over the crack
Spread joint compound over the tape
Let the compound dry completely
Sand the area smooth
Apply a second coat of joint compound if needed
Sand again after drying
Prime the repaired area
Paint to match the wall
Check for underlying movement or moisture if the crack returns
Repair any structural or water issues before patching again
