Gather required documents such as ID, proof of income, Social Security numbers, and proof of household members
Apply when the Housing Choice Voucher waitlist is open
Submit the application through the PHA’s online portal, mail, or in person if allowed
Wait for the application review and lottery or selection process if the waitlist is limited
Respond quickly to any requests for more information from the PHA
If selected, complete an eligibility interview and verification process
Attend any required briefing or orientation
Search for a rental unit that meets program standards and is approved by the PHA
Have the landlord complete the required paperwork
Sign the lease and voucher paperwork after the unit is approved
Move in and follow program rules to keep the voucher
Reapply or join other waitlists if you are not selected
