Sign in or create an OpenAI account
Complete any required account setup
Open the API keys page in your dashboard
Click Create new secret key
Copy and store the key securely
Do not share the key publicly
Use environment variables or a secure secret manager to store it
Regenerate the key if it is exposed or compromised
