Live in the UK legally on a qualifying visa
Stay in the UK for the required continuous period, usually 5 years
Use an eligible route such as Skilled Worker, Global Talent, Innovator Founder, Family visa, or other qualifying categories
Do not spend too much time outside the UK during the qualifying period
Meet the English language requirement
Pass the Life in the UK Test
Have no serious criminal record or immigration breaches
Hold valid immigration status throughout the qualifying period
Apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain when eligible
If eligible, apply for British citizenship after holding ILR for the required period
