Wash your hands
Clean the blister gently with soap and water
Leave the blister intact if possible
Cover it with a sterile bandage or blister pad
Avoid pressure and friction on the area
Wear comfortable, well-fitting shoes or clothing
Use a cold compress for pain or swelling
If the blister opens, clean it again and apply an antibiotic ointment if appropriate
Replace the bandage daily or if it gets wet or dirty
Do not peel off the skin over the blister
Seek medical care if it becomes red, warm, very painful, swollen, or drains pus
Seek medical care if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or a weakened immune system
