Apply warm, moist compresses for 10–15 minutes, 3–4 times a day
Keep the area clean with soap and water
Do not squeeze, pop, or pick at the boil
Cover it with a clean, dry bandage
Wash your hands before and after touching the area
Use over-the-counter pain relief if needed and safe for you
Avoid shaving or friction over the boil
Change bandages regularly
Seek medical care if it is very large, very painful, on the face, or not improving within a few days
Seek urgent care if you have fever, spreading redness, red streaks, or multiple boils
See a doctor if you have diabetes, a weakened immune system, or recurrent boils
