Stop shaving, waxing, or plucking the area until it heals
Wash the area gently with warm water and mild soap
Apply a warm compress for 10 to 15 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day
Gently exfoliate the area with a soft washcloth if the skin is not broken
Do not squeeze, pick, or dig at the hair
If the hair tip is visible above the skin, gently lift it out with clean tweezers or a sterile needle
Keep the area clean and dry
Wear loose, breathable underwear and clothing
Apply an over-the-counter antiseptic or hydrocortisone cream if needed and if safe for you to use
Seek medical care if there is severe pain, swelling, pus, spreading redness, fever, or repeated ingrown hairs
