Confirm the infestation by inspecting mattress seams, bed frame joints, headboard, baseboards, outlets, and nearby furniture
Isolate the bed by pulling it away from walls and keeping bedding from touching the floor
Wash all bedding, clothing, and washable fabrics on the hottest safe setting
Dry all washable items on high heat for at least 30 minutes
Seal clean items in airtight bags or bins after treatment
Vacuum mattresses, box springs, bed frames, carpets, cracks, and crevices thoroughly
Empty the vacuum immediately into a sealed bag and remove it from the home
Use a steam cleaner on seams, cracks, upholstery, and other heat-safe surfaces
Encase mattresses and box springs in bed bug-proof covers
Place bed bug interceptors under bed and furniture legs
Reduce clutter to eliminate hiding places
Apply residual insecticides only as labeled and only in cracks, crevices, and other approved areas
Use desiccant dusts such as silica gel or diatomaceous earth in wall voids and hidden gaps according to label directions
Treat all affected rooms at the same time
Repeat inspections and treatments every 7 to 14 days until no activity remains
Dispose of heavily infested items only after sealing them to prevent spreading bugs
Avoid moving infested items to other rooms or homes
Do not rely on foggers or bug bombs
Hire a licensed pest control professional for severe or persistent infestations
Continue monitoring for several weeks after treatment
Prevent reintroduction by inspecting luggage, used furniture, and secondhand items before bringing them inside
